Es Canar — Family Resort on the East Coast

Quiet family resort town home to the Punta Arabí Hippy Market.

Es Canar is a small, self-contained resort on the east coast, best known for the Punta Arabí hippy market that runs there every Wednesday through the season. It is a family resort in the traditional sense: a sheltered sandy bay, low-rise apartments, and no clubbing.

Why base yourself here

Price and calm. Es Canar is cheaper than the west coast and considerably quieter, and the bay is shallow and protected. Most people who stay here are on a beach holiday that happens to be in Ibiza, rather than an Ibiza clubbing trip.

What is here

  • Punta Arabí hippy market, Wednesdays through the season — the island's oldest and largest
  • A sheltered sandy bay with calm, shallow water
  • Coastal walking paths north towards Cala Nova and south towards Santa Eulària
  • Local restaurants and bars rather than international dining

Getting to everything else

This is the practical limitation. Es Canar is around 10 minutes from Santa Eulària, 30 minutes from Ibiza Town and 45 from San Antonio. Every club night means a taxi in both directions, typically €35 or more each way to the south-coast venues. There is a seasonal bus network but it does not usefully cover club finishing times.

When to come

June and September are the sweet spot on this coast — warm water, quieter beaches, and the market still running. See Ibiza in June and Ibiza in September.

Who it suits

Families, older visitors and anyone whose priority is a beach and a market rather than a lineup. If you are going to a club more than twice, base yourself nearer to it.
